Scam of Nations

Internations Homepage

Being new to a new city or new country you need to go about meeting people. In a previous blog, I noted some of the ways to do that.

Here is one place I would like to highlight that is not the best way to meet people. As you see from the image above, membership is free. I did do the free membership at first, but as a free member, you do not have access to most of the events and cannot rsvp, so I had no choice but to upgrade my membership. I attended a total of one event with my paid subscription; one event unpaid because my friend invited me.

The fun started 6 months later when I got a charge to renew my membership. I did not receive an email, nor was there a place to unsubscribe.

Here is my correspondence for your viewing pleasure.

I have spoken to other expats in the Paris area who have had the same problem and all complained to Internations with the same issue, so I know for a fact that "Many members view this feature positively, as it saves them the hassle of renewing their Albatross Membership manually." is complete BS and that the information was not clearly displayed or so many of us would not have run into this issue. Not sure what legitimate companies really function on automatic renewal without checking a box saying "i wish to be set up for auto-renewal". Also, think it is pretty shady to cite "please refer to as stated in section 8.1" several times in an email. The email sent to me was obviously a template drafted up by their ambulance chaser legal team to send to the the many people who have encountered (and will encounter) this problem.

So, any new expats reading this, be forewarned. Use Facebook, use instragram, for the love of God, even use Tinder, but don't give your money to this international scam of scams.
